SELECTING A PHOTOGRAPH FOR A PORTRAIT

The best photographs of the subject of a portrait are those taken out of doors, not in bright sunlight. There should be a sense of the light coming toward one side of the face or the other, so there is some shadow on one side of the nose and on the cheek. Rather than a broad grin, a slight smile is preferable.
